Who will win the biggest awards of the night?

The Grammys are coming to Los Angeles on Sunday, and the buzz of excitement has taken over the music world. Fans are patiently anticipating seeing some of their favorite artists celebrated under one roof. The past year of music hasn’t been like any other; not only have hot artists like Bad Bunny and Harry Styles blazed to the top of the music charts, but we’ve also seen many of our favorites in the industry, like Beyoncé and Adele, come back to release new work. But the question on everyone’s minds is who is going to sweep the awards? Will it be your favorite artist or will they be snubbed this Grammys season?

Check out the nominees for Sunday’s most coveted awards.

Record of the Year

This category has some of the biggest names of music today, so this is a hard one to predict. Not only have these artists released some of the most-played songs of the past year, but many of them are also continuing to smash records within the industry. “Break My Soul,” took the world by storm, as it was playing on every radio station, being featured all over social media and causing a bit of controversy due to different interpretations of the song. But that didn’t stop Beyonce from reaching the record number for the most Grammy nominations, which is tied with her husband, Jay-Z, at 88. She is also set to break the record for the most Grammy wins. With her current count at 28, she is tied for the second-most wins with singer Quincy Jones. Other names that have created a lot of buzz leading up to the awards show are Doja Cat and Kendrick Lamar. Doja Cat’s album, “Planet Her,” was featured all over TikTok, and almost every song off the album went viral on the app, including the smash hit “Woman,” since users made videos celebrating their own womanhood to the popular song. Kendrick Lamar returned last year after a four-year pause from releasing music with his new album, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” which at the time broke the record for the most first-day streams of an album released in 2022. “The Heart Part 5” was one of the leading singles off the album, delving into the perspectives of some of the most famous Black male figures, including Kanye West, O.J Simpson and Kobe Bryant.

Song of the Year

What was the song that you put on as soon as you got into the car this year, or the song you couldn’t help but sing along to, and did it make it on this year’s list of nominations? Lizzo has been everywhere this past year, headlining her first tour in three years, performing at Coachella with none other than Harry Styles and even releasing a documentary that gave fans the inside scoop into her life, album and the making of her hit song, “About Damn Time.” Vulnerability has been a common trend among artists this past year, which we see with Adele. Her song “Easy On Me” broke the world record for the most streamed song, with 24 million streams. The song dives deep into her experience of her past marriage and love. Steve Lacy has also garnered a lot of praise this past year after the huge success of his single, “Bad Habits,” which is on his second studio album, “Gemini Rights.” The song broke Harry Styles’ streak of being number one in the Billboard Hot 100 for over 16 consecutive weeks for “As It Was.” The song was featured all over social media and became a viral sound on TikTok.

Best New Artist

It’s always great to discover a new artist, but a lot of the time, many of these artists aren’t actually new. Many of this year’s nominees for Best New Artist have been in the game for a long time, but they are just now catching their big break. Anitta has been in the music industry for over a decade and is finally getting recognition for her talent. The Brazilian singer recently landed a Guinness Record for being the first Latin solo artist to reach number one on Spotify. The opposite happened for the band, Wet Leg. After the release of their first song, “Chaise Lounge,” interest in the band skyrocketed, and they got recognition from people like Elton John and Dave Grohl. The band later went on to open for Harry Styles at his past three rescheduled shows at the Forum and is set to open for him during his upcoming European leg. Omar Apollo has also been an artist getting a lot of buzz this past year. After the success of his past two EPs, he released his debut album this past year. The singer was also able to work with Pharell on this album, and he has come a long way since teaching himself how to sing off of YouTube. He is also set to open for Sza for the North American leg of her upcoming tour.
